Just Hitched: The Beginnings

Welcome to Just Hitched Event Services LLC, an emerging event planning company run by a 23-year-old Public Relations major. First, I would like to thank all of you for taking the time to follow along this journey and support my company. Every click, every share, every read and more, inspires me to keep going and building my dream.  Over the course of a few months, 4 months to be exact, I changed my life. That’s not something you hear very often- I changed my life. Well that is exactly what I did, and what every entrepreneur does: they take the leap of faith in themselves and just go for it.

My leap began on a night in February while out with friends. I had been working in events for about 2 years as an assistant at a large outdoor wedding venue. My friends were in the beginning stages of planning their wedding and of course I offered my help. With this small gesture, and push from a very great friend, I began the research into creating my own event planning company. Over the course of the next few weeks, this friend and I came up with a business name that embodied my style, my area, and my personality: Just Hitched Event Services.

I live and work out of the Hudson Valley, a scenic place just a few hours outside of New York City. Here, being outdoors; hiking, camping, fishing, waterfront restaurants, bonfires, and country music are HUGE. I myself am a country fan and enjoy a good country cover band night at a small dive bar surrounded by corn fields and patrons who arrive on Side-By-Side ATV’s and jacked up trucks. The rustic look is something I impart into my own home and events. A classic sign on the back of a car with cans attached to the bumper: “Just Hitched” gave birth to both my company’s name and logo.

By the end of March, I had a filed for the business name and by April I was officially the owner of Just Hitched Event Services, LLC. For those of you who might not know, like I did not, LLC stands for Limited Liability Company. This is a fancy way of saying the company’s assets are the company’s and my personal assets are mine if anything were ever to go wrong, legally.

In June, I decide enough was enough. This was the time, it’s now or never. Shakily I wrote my letter of resignation, read it over and over again, printed, sealed it in an envelope, and handed it to my boss. I took the leap of faith. In two-weeks-time I went from a full-time job with benefits and PTO to being my own boss- everything riding on me. I was TERRIFIED! I played the what if game:

What if this doesn’t work out?

What if I can’t do this?

What if I fail?

And then I asked myself this: What if I succeed?

From the moment I asked that question, it was as if everything fell into place. I believed in myself and couldn’t wait to see where this could go.

So here we are August 2019. I have completed 2 events, have a partnership with a local venue as their planner of choice, and work as a contractor for another venue as their day-of coordinator for weddings.  This is just the beginning, my beginning, and I cannot wait to see how far I’ll go!
